Fair. Given that all topics have been understudied at *some* point in time, I found that to be the more compelling hypothesis. Camille Paglia is 73 and she experienced gender dysphoria prior to 2012.

She is by no means alone. I am 74 and experienced it for several years starting age 8. I am proud to have achieved much as an unusual female in male-dominated fields, better than becoming an ordinary male.

And if that hypothesis was "reasonable" there would be a comparably large group of older generations coming forward to relate similar experience as the new generation group is expressing. That does not appear to be the case at all.

Nobody comes forward with anything in research. The researcher must ask the question first. At any rate, I’m not sure how you know “that does not *appear* to be the case”.
