Trudeau is offering an empty gesture and believes just calling it that will be enough. It won't. I think if the original intent was genocide we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Instead it's a case of paving the road to hell.

I really do wish there were a better word for what was happening to MMIWG. but also as an indigenous woman myself, I fear that the victims- the women & girls who have died are now lost in a semantics war.

Aren't Trudeau and his acolytes SO very lucky, that they are SO naive and so ignorant of what 'genocide' truly means and it's enormously dreadful implications! To demean and misuse such a term is to minimise the act itself! I'm sure he will continue to sleep well at night! Sadly!

I’m still not sure what to make of this whole ordeal. Indigenous people definitely deserve better. I fail to see how conflating their struggle with the word genocide helps.

I agree that they do deserve better but damn it,placing an atrocity as the keystone in a bridge over troubled water isn't the answer. It probably only serves to further obfuscate it.

The article says that Jewish people have never tried to identify with “victimhood” and implied that indigenous people have tried to identify with “victimhood.” What happened to the two cultures are in no way synonymous-agreed.
