Wonderful ideal, unfortunately many of these Free Speech statements include an ill defined standard prohibiting speech that promotes hate against any group. Too often it is this nice sounding "reasonable" restriction that is molded to do its master's bidding.

Agreed, and no matter how well-written the policy it will largely be enforced by those who're against free speech. Colleges are dominated by leftists.

Helpful. But what about the censorship via silence? I know someone whose relative is a prof at one of these colleges. Speaks w/o pronouns for fear of 1) getting them wrong; 2) being libel for discrimination and losing job; 3) fear of inadvertently drawing neg. attention to school
