Yup. When you put microphones up the people who are the most bold and arguably the most in need get up to ask a question. When you let the crowd dictate the questions it can quickly become something like mob rule. Especially with "up votes". Yuck.

Excellent way to prevent people who don't agree with you from coming to a talk and asking a critical question! For some, the cost of the ticket may not deter them adequately.
