The absence of social violence inside Western Civilization is what has precipitated these changes in the value we place upon tradition gender roles. The irony is that it is the nuclear deterrent which has brought about this social change.

We are a species emerging from a million years of violence and madness, and our social brain is highly adapted to that paradigm. I think we are all looking for a new beginning. Our civilization is moving from infancy into adolescence, and so there will be angst.
