It's not a gender-based earning gap anymore, it's a mothers vs everyone else gap (I heard Thomas Sowell say this in about 1984!). Therefore, does it need a solution? Why are we now (in the West) not in an equality of opportunity equilibrium where choices, largely, are absolute?

Could fathers take it at any point? Most women need to recuperate from birth for quite awhile, and there's breastfeeding...

Give custody to fathers during a divorce - that will, at least in part, negate motherhood as a contributor to the wage gap.

The solution isn’t so difficult. It all boils down to taking responsibility for your emotions - and being grateful for the stability created by those who you’re tempted to resent.

Well put.

It's not a problem. Being a mother's the greatest thing on earth, & its impact on ones career is both natural & nothing to be negative about.Construing motherhood as a drag on a career can only be done by people too foolish not to be preoccupied by the marvels of raising children
