The Arabs have 4 many centuries engaged in the slave trade of black people but somehow it is the white man, who was a late participant and the one who took steps to end this evil act that is vilified for slavery. SJWs are just anti western civilizationhttp://time.com/5042560/libya-slave-trade/ …

Only about 5% of "whites" in the antebellum US could afford to/did own slaves. Dutch/British/etc. bought their slaves from the AFRICANS who sold them. Islamists, however, were at the slave markets FAR before the Europeans. "Whites" ended their slavery; Islamist STILL have theirs.

one of the greatest men of all history.. yet no schoolchild has heard of him.

Worse than that. My partner is studying sociology as an undergraduate, and was skeptical when I suggested Britain had made the contribution of abolition to the world Half way through her first year of a degree and having already studied at A level and this hadn't been taught

1. A great person. I think most children learn about him contray to some comments. Hes been looked at in a strange way. Hero worshiped as having single handedly ended slavery and is used as an example of the enlightened UK ending slavery. Although its much more complex then that.
-
2. I suppose focusing so much on him and not the other factors that ended the slave trade has not helped people look at Slavery Factually and rather through the enlightend saviour lens. I think thats why people seem to have a problem with him.
-
3. As an individual though its hard to doubt his commitment and moral character. End

Wonderful man, wonderful and worthwhile human life. Shame he needed to find religion to lead him to all this but, hey, we’ll take what we get.
-
Shame? I see it as a blessing that he found a moral compass. To straighten out his life and to then look beyond himself. Miracle by today's standards. He was independently wealthy, didn't have to do anything...but he did.
-
Moral compasses are readily available to those without “faith”, I can assure you. Some of us just abhor boredom but I don’t mean that unkindly, merely to emphasise the point that, of itself, I don’t rate that as remarkable.
-
Some of us aren't as naturally good as you and do, in fact, need our religious connections. Seriously, why did you even need to make such an obviously spiteful comment? Virtually all abolitionists were religiously motivated.
-
Oi vey! There’s not a grain of spite left in me. I was countering the mantra of the motivation. It needs countering. Of course you are “as good as me”, or as the next man, just trust yourself more and grow in confidence. You’ll find it rewarding.

so it would have been a better outsome if he had not found God?

Who can say?

you did

We read a whole book about him when I homeschooled my children. He was an amazing man.
