Dr. Peterson, if you are willing to take seriously the notion that men are hated/oppressed in contemporary society given articles like this, why do you routinely express incredulity at the possibility of the reverse in the past, given vast historical evidence of discrimination?

That's not the point is it. It's what is happening now, past is for learning, present is for doing.
-
Perhaps I wasn't clear. We can point to old legislation oppressing women and yet Peterson refuses to acknowledge even historical Patriarchy. Now he can point to disparity in outcomes for men and claim systemic oppression. He's not stupid, so clearly there's something amiss.
-
I think you will find every time that point is brought up he does acknowledge the past but not in as simplistic a way as you do. Again that's not the point, the current problem is, not what was in the past.
-
He certainly accepts the oppression of the past, but not as a monolithic expression of patriarchichal dominance, like many would like to reduce it to. Many people have their little key issue buttons and he refuses to give it to them.

I got accepted to the University of East London Psychology, never too late knowing I'm 34. Cheers for helping me understand myself.
-
I am studying for my Psychology Degree at age 46!! The reason? To become an educational psychologist where my aim will be to advocate for boys as I have spent years battling the system on behalf of my own sons. I recognise their needs and what isn’t being done.

You ever find it weird how in the post-modern quest to remove grand narrative from the societal structure, the grandest and most hateful narrative ever constructed, in regards to oppressive white patriarchy, began to emerge?
-
Maybe it came from the void with the original problem of post-modernism in regards to how humans need certain axiom-based structure to exist (like math, for example).

Hi Martin, that’s a scientific fact but has little to do with the premise of the article.

excellent article outlining the issues that have and continue to persist for boys and young men. A shame gender equality is simply a means by which to tear down masculinity and replace it with the feminine. True equality would exemplify both.
-
Which is exactly what the vast majority of feminists advocate for.
-
Advocate for true equality? Even if that were true, their actions demonstrate otherwise.
-
The actions of a few that you notice, rather than the many, that you don’t.
