I wish we had the presumption of innocence when Commodus was trying to kill me
-
There was the presumption of Commodus' innocence, if that helps?

Yes we should go back to the olden days where the person in question is tied up and thrown into a lake. If he floats to the surface he is innocent!

Where was all this anger at “kangaroo courts” when students were being disciplined for drug possession in dorms or plagiarism using the preponderance standard? Why such a visceral response to sexual assault?
-
It's *not* because it's a sex crime. It's because schools shouldn't be police, judge and jury. If there's a crime, go to the police.

You can't have an efficient kangaroo court without the presumption of guilt.

Universities have no business "trying" sex crimes.
-
Universities do not conduct trials, they conduct disciplinary proceedings. They are entitled and obligated to do so especially to ensure student safety. In the US, there is no right or entitlement to attend a University. Withdrawing the privilege remains with the school.
