You notice nobody ever says of the Nazis, "Well, that wasn't *real* fascism"? The correct response to this claim (for either communism or fascism) would be, "Well, if that's the case, let's hope to God we never see the pure thing, because that was pretty evil."

Saying "that wasn't real communism" really means I could have done it better if i was dictator. Says alot about their motivation. Pure narcissism.

That’s not what it means because by definition in an actual communist state there would be no hierarchy or class structure. The correct criticism is one that asks whether such a system is actually possible.
