@nntaleb's work. People had similar thoughts about war in Europe in the late 19th century. The great war (WW1) was a black swan event, for it was after such a long period of peace.

Water shortages may be a big issue in the near future with climate change, extensive deforestation, and agriculture causing increased evaporation, runoff, and draining aquifers respectively.
