I'd argue it's just the media ignoring stories that don't have any punch to them. There's no drama in letting the world know that poverty and famine are on the decline.

There is probably a shared, sinking feeling that we are not living up to our fullest potential due to a lack of focus and orientation. Endless identity politics certainly don't help.

Sadly, a lot the capitalists who run things will not realize this no matter how many homeless vets they trip over on their way to buy a $7 coffee because their focus is on profits, not people. Perhaps we should stop demonizing identity groups and fight corruption instead.
