We need to learn empathy to call us to action, but empathy does not tell us which actions are most helpful. That is why we need empirical data.

I’ve seen this in real life. Close friends on both sides of issues, very liberal vs very conservative. One joins causes, protests & sends out $$ . Very vocal w/ social justice. The other adopted 3 minority kids, volunteers hands-on, donates locally, & quiet about it.
