Did it not always seem a bit... vague? It spoke in definites yet never actually said anything at all.

Indeed, very disappointing and this news, though fantastic for Liverpool this sort of thing misses the whole point that moving media and creative industry centralisation out of London was not to then centralise it in the North West

A friend of mine (who comes at this from the technical side) has just opened a film studio in Hockley. https://www.birminghamfilmstudio.com/ Nout to do Stephen knight, but it's a film studio opening up none the less

We are trying to do our bit too

If Birmingham really wants to get ahead of the game, someone should be looking at setting up one of the virtual sound stages here like they used on the Mandalorian. It’s a game changer.

From what I've heard/experienced there is a huge amount of demand for studio capacity so it isn't necessarily the end for any other UK studio projects. Midlands is also as close to the big new studio developments around London.

I'd add that one of the big blockers to development in this industry is smaller studios with availability and affordability for upskilling experienced new crews/creatives/companies etc. Birmingham has so few suitable small/mid-size spaces.

Think that's it, a lot of talk and now it's toast. I think we -really- needed to pull off a Netflix steal here since we lost Channel 4, but this might signal the end to a hope that Birmingham can produce National/International TV/film.
