Mookie Betts knows his importance to the MLBPA & what signing a big FA contract means from labor standpoint for players. It’s one of the main reasons he wants to become a FA, per sources. Chatter that he’s not signing an extension because he doesn’t like Boston is nonsense.

I mean it is important to the MLBPA and agents for obvious reasons, and I’m not saying Mookie doesn’t like Boston, but it’s a bit bold to say players sign contracts and determine their future playing based on how it will affect future negotiations for other players

There are some definite kinks that need to be worked out in terms of contracts and the way the system is set up but man…I’m not sure if the MLBPA needs help on top end contracts.

I believe Mookie genuinely enjoys Boston and that this is accurate reporting of what Mookie's team has relayed. I don't buy that this is motivated by union solidarity however. Mookie isn't even the Red Sox MLBPAA team rep. He wants the bag and no one can blame him for that.
