I absolutely agree, Julie. If we are unable to acknowledge that sometimes our opponents are correct, particularly on issues that we all wish to be non-party-political, then we will be seen as arrogant and dogmatic, and lose the trust of those we wish to bring on board.

Completely agree. It’s a cross party failure since 2008. Repeated reviews with no actions or accountability. We don’t have the basics in place never mind policy or laws. Take full responsibility & stop deflecting with immediate actions by all. I’m now a broken record for 7yrs

-
I think it runs even deeper than that sadly. Also a big part of the problem is a failure to listen to the folk at the sharp end and implement action based on evidence.

I suppose we are all just so used to politicians doing things just to score points we become suspicious and untrusting of motivations.

The thing that must be recognised Julie is that many of the addicts are of middle age and are not going to get off the drugs. Being in a position to provide those people with safe drugs and safe usage facilities would go a long way to prolonging their lives.
-
I agree. There has to be a shift into that acceptance societally. As long as drugs are available, some will misuse and priority should be preservation of life always. Enforcement & harm reduction are both required & should never be mutually exclusive.

And I totally agree with you on the need to re-assess the role, membership and remit if ADPs. They make all the decisions on allocation of resources (including cuts and subsequent closure of services) and ScotGov gets the blame.

My experience of the Angus ADP is that it works well, good partnership working. I've managed to help raise its profile at the IJB since joining it though, as its governance was a bit vague, not sure how others function. Can you elaborate on that, please?
-
I know that there are examples of good practice and that needs replicated. Lack of governance, accountability, joined up working & closed shop mentality of some needs closely looked at. It’s also concerning but unsurprising that you had to help raise profile at IJB level.
