Also is the EU source speaking for the European Parliament?
-
Highly doubtful. As
@NvOndarza correctly says it’d be foolish if everyone tried to push this through in haste. EP won’t be pushed around. - Antwoorden weergeven

Why is it that the Benn Act criteria can't be met by 19 Oct now? Very grateful for any insight here :)
-
Because it requires a legal text of a Withdrawal Agreement. The EU said on Tuesday that there’s not enough time to get the Deal legally agreed at this summit. There’ll be a draft, but not a final, ratifiable text.

I have to say that this looks like it's been an excellent an excellent blame-deflecting exercise by the EU.

What if EU only allow extension for specific purposes eg. a GE? Then we’re doomed aren’t we?
-
The specific purpose of any extension would be to allow more time to agree on the workings of a WA, a GE is of no concern to the EU, that again would be just more Internal battling within the UK Gov which has always and always will be the problem.

For better or worse, extension is in the gift of the EU and not ours to demand. Parliament needs to offer a reasonable reason to secure it. The electorate does not want a General Election. A second referendum on the deal, with option to remain is the most reasonable
