On a side note, when people are like "nobody should live in that area, they should all just move" I'm like "if they all moved, then who would we pay to work at those plants and get cancer so that we can all have cars, plastics, and most of the other trappings of modern life?"

I grew up knowing that if the big klaxons sounded and you got an alert, you went indoors, turned off the AC, and hunkered down because something bad may have just been released.

There are so many layers upon layers of safety measures and failsafes at these plants, that I imagine this is unlikely to develop in a way that is truly catastrophic. But you never know. They're complex systems.

If there was a single plant that could go offline & cause a bunch of weird pain & shortages of some critical component that underlies a bunch of core stuff we all rely on (food, water, fuel, whatever) it would be one of these in this area. Locating them there is Russian Roulette.

And there it is: Shelter in place, and turn off the AC.https://twitter.com/LouisianaGov/status/1299009238317043712 …

So if they are telling people to actually walk outside their homes where they are currently sheltering with AC off, get into their cars, & drive away, then this must be on some other level. I have never in my life heard of such in this area: https://twitter.com/TheScoopUSA/status/1299015968845430784 …

@TheScoopUSA can you guys confirm an official evacuation order or recommendation? Or is this just your suggestion? Because an official order would be extraordinary, especially with the area in the state it's in (downed trees & power lines, no power or gas, etc.)

If you are in the Westlake/Moss Bluff/Sulphur area, shelter in place, close your windows and doors and TURN OFF YOUR AIR CONDITIONING UNITS. There is a chemical fire. Stay inside and wait for additional direction from local officials.
