JPEG XL, the next-generation image compression codec. It's still a work-in-progress, but since today we have a public software repository. The code is proudly Free & Open Source (Apache 2.0), the codec is Royalty-free.

Palindrome: a place where ex-governors of Alaska are racing each other. They have to run both forwards and backwards and they dress in funny symmetrical costumes so you can't tell which way they're facing.

*That last sentence is again an incorrect generalization. It can lead to inconclusiveness and inaction, and a postmodernist "everyone has their own truth" view which prevents humanity from taking appropriate action even in the face of overwhelming evidence.

*Though even those kind of generalizations can turn out to be wrong, and need to be revised. So we can conclude we should always be extremely careful when generalizing.

All generalizations are wrong.* *This generalization is wrong. Some generalizations are in fact correct. For example the kind of generalizations that allow physicists to figure out the laws of nature.

The Overton window has shifted in my lifetime to a point where moderate Keynsianism is called communism, hard-core capitalism is called center-left, Orwellian authoritarianism is common sense and neo-fascism is salonfähig center-right. It will have to snap back to reality though.

I wonder why the % symbol is what it is. It looks like zero divided by zero. It would make more sense for it to look like this: /100 Also it helps to pronounce it "hundredth", or to just stop using it completely and say 0.5 instead of 50%.

Let's say a billionaire made a billion by working harder than the average CEO, say 88 hours a week. Then shouldn't the average US worker have made half a billion? Or do you get exponentially higher wages for the extra hours? How exactly does it work?
