Now joined Mastodon, as @jonskeet@hachyderm.io - I suspect I'll still be tweeting as well, while I explore how it all works.

Always nice to see C# in Depth on lists of good C# books - even if I feel guilty that there's not a fifth edition yet (and it's not in the works at the moment either). josipmisko.com/best-c-sharp-b for the list - and mng.bz/QnKQ to order it. End of shameless self-promo :)

I'm starting to think that rack mount units are a bit like hard disks, in terms of "you will always fill the space you have, then want more." On the other hand, they're extremely satisfying... so neat.

How quickly does your code get time zone database updates? 2022-11-29T17:43Z: IANA time zone database 2022g published 2022-11-29T17:50Z: NodaTime v3.1.6 pushed to NuGet

I've been playing Redactle for the last couple of weeks, and it's great. Now I want Refactle, which starts with a complete mess of code, and lets you try to apply various refactorings until you end up with something readable.

Actually getting round to looking at Mastodon servers now. I'm assuming I don't need to find a server which caters to exactly what I post about. I'm guessing "Christian feminist man in tech, fan of musicals" might be a bit niche.

Our cats really can be very cute sometimes.
Two cats curled up on a bed.
Cat curled up with paw in front of face.
Cat curled up looking blissed out.

Followers who are up on US politics: I assume that the Republicans were planning on shutting down the January 6th committee if possible. If they get a majority in the House, but it's only very slim (e.g. 223) would they still have the votes to do that?

Either I don't understand UDP (very possible), or I don't understand UdpClient in .NET (very possible), or UdpClient doesn't really understand UDP (would be surprising). Time to start prepping a Stack Overflow question. Really hope I don't need to start using Socket directly.

I just don't think I've got the energy to file a proper bug report for TimeZoneInfo producing the wrong results for Asia/Gaza from 2037 onwards on Linux, on .NET 6. <sigh>

It strikes me that with the appalling way the Twitter layoffs have been conducted, they're likely to find it hard to retain the remaining staff *or* recruit new staff (at least without a huge mea culpa). Who'd want to work for a company run like that?

Given the responses saying "the charger should be converting to UTC", I think I may write a blog post with some sample code of what *I'd* do if I were writing the charger code.

Exciting experiment tonight! I have my electric car charger set to charge between 00:30 and 04:30, as that's when I get cheap electricity. The clocks go back (2:00 to 1:00) tonight. So: a) will I get 5 hours of charging? b) will all of it be at the cheap rate? Enquiring minds etc

I've just finished another pass at some wording around overload resolution in the C# standard. (The improvements in C# 7.) It was only a few lines, but it's overload resolution. That means I'm done for the day, right?

I can't help but think that the Conservatives have handed all other parties a long-term gift. *Every* time they call for someone to resign due to some admitted mistake in future, the response should be: "Sure, so long as they can come back in a week. That's okay, right?"

Holly Webb has written over 150 stories for children in her 18 year career including the the bestselling and well loved Animal Stories series. This film gives us some beautiful insight into 's writing and career.

The needs to use Noda Time: "With just over 48 hours to go until nominations for the next Conservative Party leader close at 14:00 BST on Monday" - um, over 48 hours? Is there an extra day I'm not aware of?

I keep having weird thoughts about what's really going on behind the scenes in the Conservative leadership election (and what will happen in the next week). Current thought: Sunak and Johnson are playing rock/paper/scissors somewhere to decide who actually enters the race.

If at noon on Monday, Mordaunt has ~50 nominations and Johnson has 90, would 10 of Maudant's break to get Johnson over the line? And is that even allowed under the rules?

If Johnson *does* end up as PM again, I would dearly love Starmer's first PMQ question to be "Did you enjoy your holidays?"

I believe there's a significant chance that Johnson (if he runs) will win the leadership contest. I suspect he would then fail to form a government, so we'd be in for a quick general election. That might even be our best hope for an early election - but would be farcical.

I really want to see a general election with at least one party campaigning with the slogan "Make politics boring again."

Twitter, I'm disappointed. I'd really expected that by now there's be a really good version of "We both reached for the gun" but with Jeremy Hunt controlling Liz Truss...

Recruiter fail: "Hi Joe, Your profile appeared in a search whilst I was looking for Golang Developers [...]" Zero for two...
