To those saying Macworld layoffs related to print were inevitable, understand that the bulk of our/their jobs was daily online work.

@jonseff I’m trying to remind those who say, “I never read the print so I don’t care” of exactly how much online stuff you/those people did.

@ShawnKing Yeah, the print mag was a digest of the best/longest lasting content + features. For most editors, a small % of our work.

@jonseff @settern The shutdown of print was a side-effect of reducing costs and laying people off, not the cause.

@jonseff I’d have loved to be a fly on their wall looking at their numbers

@jonseff publishers are doing this and paying authors a fraction of what you were making before being Laid off.

@jonseff it was competing with many perhaps more popular similar sites employing 1-very few people?was downsizing an option?(tough market)

@jonseff @marcoarment yeah, but they worked for a company whose genesis is in print.Maybe the bosses just didn’t get how to make online work?

I’ve thought their web design and, by all indications, dodgy CMS were costing them money for years. NOT writing talent. @jonseff @settern

@jonseff @marcoarment I never even knew they wrote for the print version. Only online work. Nothing inevitable had to happen.Sad news though

@jonseff @marcoarment Confluence of Killing Print Mag ("Inevitable!") and huge layoffs of mainly-online workforce ("Unfortunate.") = good PR

@jonseff @settern my concern is not the print side but how can MacWorld provide anything close to the previous coverage without the staff!!!
