    this is one of my favorite basketball games ever, period, but it's probably also my favorite moment of kobe's career. USA trying to win the gold medal back, lots of young superstars, and kobe makes nearly every critical play. reminded everybody he was still kobe.

    We are mega supporters of existing transit, to be clear. But any new infrastructure investments should factor in all SOV reducing options - and be highly skeptical of “obvious” billion-dollar answers. If a dollar for carpooling is 100x more effective than a dollar elsewhere...

    This. Or better yet: save the billions, expand carpool lanes/access routes, incentivize employer-sponsored shared commute programs. partners are reducing SOV rates by meaningful percentages at sub-1% of the cost of what is being spent on transit infrastructure.

    So I’ve thought about this for about six years and a major solution to SF traffic that is practical and cost feasible is a tunnel laid on the floor of the bay that goes from 101 @ Candlestick to Sausalito. It sounds crazy but actually makes sense as long as we have cars.

    A few years ago I had lunch with a CEO who was talking about his 3 marathons that year, the non-stop travel, the 30 books he read, etc. I asked him, “How do you find the time?” He said, “I am not winning any father of the year awards.” Everything has a trade-off.

    Some upsetting news to share & explanation for why I’ve been MIA recently: after a bunch of tests, I’ve been diagnosed w/ metastatic lung cancer. Which sucks a lot. I’m starting treatment Monday, & my doctors — who have been incredible — believe we can get this into remission. 1/

    Deferred by UPenn, got in later, and went to anyway on scholarship. Then when at Google was told I didn’t “qualify” for APMM program - only Sales. Later told I couldn’t be a PM without a CS degree. 🤷‍♂️ Systems are flawed at people. You control your own destiny.

    Some prestigious colleges are sending early decision notices today/tomorrow. I know this can seem life or death to students and parents. So: if you were rejected or deferred from your first choice, and life ended up just fine the following years, shout out. Tufts deferred me!

    Spot on. We also need investments in modality that actually solves the problem at scale and at a fraction of the cost. That’s our goal with .

    I’m in favor of being bold on transportation decarbonization, and investment in transit is clearly a key part. But worth remembering that doubling US transit ridership would get it to about 5% of total US trips. We need transit + A LOT of other strategies to decarbonize mobility.
