There are a shitload of other people's words, camera setups, and performance choices you have a relationship with, not just one person's vision. Despite the argument of several showrunners, auteur theory, at least in television, is very hard to justify and when it is, often leaves a nightmare trail of damage behind it.
I have absolutely, positively failed other people during my career, and I would hate for you to stop loving characters ands stories other people put their heart and soul into because of one asshole, even if that asshole is me.
