Despite the argument of several showrunners, auteur theory, at least in television, is very hard to justify and when it is, often leaves a nightmare trail of damage behind it.

I have absolutely, positively failed other people during my career, and I would hate for you to stop loving characters ands stories other people put their heart and soul into because of one asshole, even if that asshole is me.

We could do a hundred tweet thread about everything I've ever done that people (sometimes inexplicably) love where I point out how that thing you love was the result of someone else's choice.

If memory serves, Danial Radcliffe had a great commentary about how the meaning that people got from Harry Potter shouldn't be diminished by JK Rowling's recent comments. Looking for it...

Also... I think those of us in the industry overestimate how much the audience cares about those behind the scenes. I doubt 99% of Buffy fans could name Wheadon. Creators/showrunners/directors aren't the face of a project to the outside world.

I'm so glad that people are talking about this now, because I was getting really tired of the "But that one person did something wrong > he's evil > we can't support anything he was ever involved in and must burn it all down" train. How many other people get hurt that way?

Not to mention, *because* they are so collaborative, there is *always* going to be at least one asshole who mistreats other people on every show and movie. Do we stop enjoying things entirely because of them, or do we honor the work of the people who put up with them?
