I try every single day to attempt to detail how phenomenally complex the air transport system actually is. If the public sufficiently knew and understood how much work goes in to get a plane off the ground, let alone on time, they would never complain.

One of the (maybe silly, clearly personal) reasons I like intra-Europe flights over US short haul is that Ameros close about 90% of the shades 10 seconds after takeoff. Euros get that the light and space in the cabin is a shared thing. Comes from train travel habits, I suspect.

  7. The team has been testing this, but its in conjunction with increased moving and living space aboard. Put it on today's cabin arrangements and it's practically a human rights violation.

  8. I remember flying in a middle seat once on a last-minute AirTran ticket. I was in a row with no window. It was deeply unsettling and disorienting on takeoff and landing.

  9. I just flew 9.5 hours from Brazil to the U.S. and my shades were down for 9.25 hours of that flight. Don't confuse that for an argument in favor of getting rid of windows. This is a terrible idea and the only thing that could get me to give up flying.

  19. But seriously, Airbus (and Bombardier) are the biggest potential winners in any U.S.-China trade war. An order for 200 C Series, 100 A330neos and 50 A380s would heartily screw up Boeing strategic planning for the next decade.

China imposing tariffs on 737-800s (and smaller) Boeing jets shouldn't be a sigh of relief because of the backlog vs. the 737 Max 8. Drawing that line on this retaliation is a clear-as-day message that China still has a trump card. This is a warning not to escalate further.
