This appears to be the first city in the area, and possibly in the state to seek to do this. If the Board of Aldermen votes to do this, then the people will vote on whether to ban dispensaries in November 2024. Voters would need to give 60% to ban them in order for it to be law.

I took a bit of a Twitter hiatus to learn the ropes of St. Louis but I’m starting back up. The city of Des Peres is considering banning recreational marijuana stores in the city. This comes after Missouri legalized it last year. Packed meeting.

He also said he'll go along with some of the concessions, even ones he doesn't like, but said if McCarthy just hands committee chairmanships to the holdouts: "That's a red line."

Just spoke with Rep. Don Bacon on the Speaker battle. He said he's told by a good source Kevin McCarthy got about half the holdouts on his side. He went on to call the gridlock embarrassing for the GOP & the country b/c the voters wanted the GOP to govern in the House.

I had a blast walking around the airport today talking to travelers. People were actually pretty relaxed about the storm coming!

It's the middle of the holiday travel season and December 21 is sometimes the single biggest travel day of the year, and of course, an impending winter storm is coming. @jonnykip21 #Omaha #Nebraska 3newsnow.com/news/local-new

Really well written piece on opioid addiction from a Lincoln doctor, who experienced it himself. I know Dr. Frayser a little bit, he coached me in youth football and he saw me as a patient at least once. Wonderful man and I'm happy he's in recovery.

"And it’s those kind of comments and those actions of eating dinner a guy who has made terrible, terrible anti-semitic comments that makes him really unelectable in the general election and hopefully in the primaries as well," said Bacon.

I'll have more from this interview soon. Bacon also discussed the Speaker race/supporting McCarthy, what the GOP-led House will do and whether a slim majority gives people like him more say in the House.

I spoke w/ Rep. Don Bacon today, who largely blames Trump for GOP underperforming in the midterms. “They like the policies, but the bombast, the name-calling, the lack of self control, cost us 10-14 seats in the House, probably costed us 3-4 seats in the Senate.”

My quick math showed it’s VERY likely the GOP holds 29 seats…and will need to win 4 of these to get a filibuster-proof majority.

One surprise of the night? Sarah Slattery is keeping it close in a legislative race against Rob Clements, one of the most conservative members of the legislature. The district includes Cass County and small part of western Lancaster county. Clements is up 50.4%-49.6%.

With more returns in Aaron Hanson leads Greg Gonzalez by about 130 votes. It seems likely we won't know the winner until Friday in that race.
