Really pleased that so many public sector workers will see a real terms pay increase this year. Times are tough but so right that we recognise and reward the contribution of these workers in tackling the pandemic.pic.twitter.com/KtOYfVSov4

What do we think of nurses? Personally think they’re good, hardworking people. May be hard to accept but Tories do want the best for people. Possible to welcome public sector pay rises without them applying to all. AFC scales were fixed ‘18-‘21 and accepted by Unions. Not happy?
Nope. My real terms pay is lower than it was six years ago. If you’re going to make a song and dance about rewarding front line staff, then don’t totally ignore those on the literal cutting edge. My ‘thank you’ from the government will be a real-terms pay cut.
FWIW I’ve no problem with the idea that Tories May want the best for the country, you mightn’t think we can afford pay for what work we’ve done. But howsabout not saying you want to reward people when you’re putting the boot into those who’ve been doing the most dangerous work?
