Overall that was very detailed and open from Dominic Cummings. People who didn’t like him yesterday won’t like him tomorrow but the decisions he took at each stage appear reasonable in the circumstances (which doesn’t mean you have to agree with them).
The idea of driving a short distance to check that you are able before a long journey is a reasonable thing to do. Any apology would be hollow as he doesn’t believe he’s done wrong. I don’t think he has either, that’s my view but evidently many people feel differently.

They do, Jonny. I guess it depends on what you regard as a short distance. His wife made little mention of any of this in her article. It's those who couldn't say goodbye to loved ones who I feel for. We'll have to disagree on this one.

It’s illegal to drive if you believe you may not be capable. 60 miles, with a stop at the middle point (picnic even maybe), on your wife’s birthday, is necessary to check it’s ok to drive? That’s 25% of way back to London. Strictly necessary?
