Overall that was very detailed and open from Dominic Cummings. People who didn’t like him yesterday won’t like him tomorrow but the decisions he took at each stage appear reasonable in the circumstances (which doesn’t mean you have to agree with them).
He says he didn’t feel comfortable asking someone outside his family to do this as if they had had to look after his kid they would be putting themselves at risk of infection. To me that seems reasonable.

What was every other single parent or couple supposed to do? I gather from coverage they didn’t know they had the virus , didn’t have those symptoms. So no justification can include them having the virus at that point in time. They effectively drove 250m to stay in a 2nd home

He undoubtedly has a privileged position in being able to do what he did, most people don’t have the option. That doesn’t make it wrong. I don’t actually think the distance has any bearing as there was no risk of infection on that 250 mile journey
