Overall that was very detailed and open from Dominic Cummings. People who didn’t like him yesterday won’t like him tomorrow but the decisions he took at each stage appear reasonable in the circumstances (which doesn’t mean you have to agree with them).
I agree the comms on this has been horrendous. This press conference should have happened on Saturday. They’ve let the story have legs but I don’t actually think he did anything legally or morally wrong.

When 98% of the population have adhered strictly to the guidelines it’s a bit of a kick in the balls when someone who wrote the policy then doesn’t do so himself, justifiable or not. An apology today would have appeased things but he couldn’t even do that

Yep I completely get that and I think that’s largely down to the fact No.10 didn’t understand the likely public backlash on this and didn’t explain it early enough. I think any apology would have been hollow as I don’t think he believes he did anything wrong.
