And what % of the population have photo id in Woking? It might not be truly representative of the UK. In fact, no way it's representative. Photo id levels in areas of large scale deprivation might be more accurate and convincing. Or do the less well off not count? #ToryShambles
It was trialled in different areas right across England and the findings were the same. Also, the elector ID card is free so there is clearly no financial barrier to voting.
How many people were turned away?
87. And 65 of them returned with ID later to vote.
This meme that it didn't impact turnout is annoying, and I'm not criticising you, I'm sure you mean it in good faith. But in the trials both last year and this year, hundreds of people tried to vote, were turned away and didn't come back. What is that if not an impact on turnout?
We don't know what turnout would have been without the requirement, so you can't make the comparison - all you can do is note that people were literally turned away and therefore didn't vote.
And myth number three, that voter ID is only here to win Conservatives seats. If it was, it doesn’t seem to have worked very well in that regard for something now being rolled out nationally...
Very interesting!
Would love to know which part of the tweet our illustrious councillor think is a “misrepresentation”. Both statements are just facts....
