If Boris is doing such a bad job why don’t Labour and Lib Dem MPs think they can beat him in a general election? 
I really can’t see him doing that or being able to do it without harpooning his chances of winning an election. I suppose they could oppose it on a FTPA vote but then support a bill that overrides it and fixes next election date in law.

Yup. Which Nick Boles was suggesting last night. Maybe the calculation that ‘getting Brexit done’ (which it wouldn’t be) would offset the electoral cost of undermining parliamentary sovereignty has been considered by the government?

But I believe Boles is talking about it in context that the extension is triggered first. Absolutely no way Johnson can do that even if he were minded to. I think when you announce a date of a GE to the public that’s a tough thing to row back from. But who knows
