A very similar situation happened back in 2016, with an event called Pride Con. A kickstarter, a cancellation days before the event started, no refunds offered, the whole shebang.

I suppose it's possible he might just be EXTREMELY unlucky and managed to accidentally get himself involved in this catastrophic failure of a situation twice in a row, but seeing as he was the CEO of the company running the first event, THIS IS REAL SUSPICIOUS 
Either way, if you see this dude's name attached to any first-year cons, RUN THE OTHER WAY, otherwise you're likely to lose your money (it happened twice already, the data doesn't lie!)
If Universal FanCon stole money from you, please dispute those charges if at all possible! Withholding refunds for an event that is not happening is completely unethical. If you screwed up the event, YOU eat the costs, not the would-be attendees!!
I should also add, it's possible there might be other staff members that were involved with both events, but Thai's name is the only one I've been able to find so far
UPDATE: Wellllp it's looking like these two events are definitely linked, thanks to this little mishap in the questionnaire that #UniversalFanCon sent out to all of its guests, GOOD LORDT
