Pleased to discuss @glasgowCC’s proposed response to @scotgov consultation on short term lets at committee today. We need a new system if regulations to manage the spread of short stay accommodation and give councils the power to set locally appropriate limits.

Sympathetic to the aims, though I’d note we already have planning rules to this effect in Glasgow which have been successfully applied and upheld by DPEA. Also personally not sure about the specific definition of STL in the amendment as I’d be keener for local flexibility.

Ultimately though our experience of (successfully) enforcing through planning policy in Glasgow is that it is difficult and time consuming, as SG consultation recognises. Therefore I’m of the view we need a new licensing regime to manage, set conditions and enforce STLs.
