I like all the concessions the Greens have won in the budget talks, except the last one about doubling the plastic bag tax and introducing a coffee cup levy, but I suppose greens gonna green :D https://greens.scot/blog/7-things-the-green-budget-deal-will-deliver …

I kinda wonder what's going to happen if someone gets ill after having a coffee in a refillable mug. If they blame the coffee and sue the coffee chain, but the coffee chain claim it must have been a dirty mug or whatever...

I have other issues with the push to force everyone to use refillable mugs, but if I list 'em I know I'll spend the whole afternoon arguing with people who think an unmeasurably small theoretical improvement to the environment is worth any amount of inconvenience to everyone.

I think I'm probably due some kind of prize for being the Green voter least convinced by most environmentalist legislation, honestly.

Does it help that greens are also pushing for net zero greenhouse gas emissions by at least 2040? Just wisnae in the budget. Hear what you’re saying about the small lifestyle stuff but they’re working on the big stuff too

Oh yeah, I know they work on a range of stuff, and like I say I am a green voter
I get frustrated by the focus on the small lifestyle stuff that I'm not convinced is effective, but that's more the media's fault than the party's, to be honest.0 antwoorden 0 retweets 1 vind-ik-leuk -

Yeah, I was surprised too actually and it's made me a ~little~ warier about criticising this stuff. But i think asking people to keep a carrier bag on them is different to asking them to lug around a large-Starbucks-sized coffee mug just in case they fancy a drink!

It’s also a shift towards bringing the proceeds of such charges under the auspices of councils so is part of wider local funding stuff. Councils pick up the tab for emptying bins and cleaning the streets - might not be sexy stuff but folk notice if it’s not funded properly.

Oh, that's interesting too, yeah. I thought all the proceeds from this went to charities.

At the moment retailers can pocket the cash. They’re encouraged to give it to good causes but no compulsion to do so.
