I have followed this from the beginning & I agree that it is an attempted governance coup. #NoPropagationWars https://twitter.com/pierre_rochard/status/632904268303998976 …

@jonmatonis @pierre_rochard If it gets adopted by a majority of users, it sounds pretty democratic, doesn't it? That's how open source works

@mola_io @pierre_rochard However, it won't get adopted...at least not via that channel. In the meantime, s/w propagation war is dangerous.

@jonmatonis @pierre_rochard If it does not get adopted, you should not fear it, right? Or am I missing something?

@mola_io @pierre_rochard Bitcoin is anti-fragile, but "suggested" changes fought via propagation degrade confidence and cause uncertainty.

@jonmatonis @pierre_rochard It's painful on the political side, but I'd say that what you call "war" is how open source moves forward.

@jonmatonis @adam3us A coup is an essential artefact of governance. Bitcoin's system of G. failed to resolve the issue. Look to the system.

@jonmatonis @adam3us Typically, canonical model of governance is 3 heads of power: legislature, executive, judiciary, in balance.

@jonmatonis @adam3us Where, in balance can also be characterised as being in perpetual disagreement, war of words and actions.

@jonmatonis the attempted governance coup is being done by blockstream devs who wish to force users into using trusted 3rd parties (them)

@jonmatonis @LarryBitcoin But who is behind it? Perhaps VC-backed entities who want to disassociate Bitcoin from the cypherpunk message?

@jonmatonis @LarryBitcoin The issue was likely chosen specifically to allow them to engineer a split between devs & the unwashed masses.

@jonmatonis The coup occurred when gmaxwell forcefully blocked @gavinandresen. Gavin would happily submit BIP 101 to any fork, not just XT.

@jonmatonis @pierre_rochard it's a fork. A fork is a fork, not a coup. A fork is OK. Censorship and non-arguments is what I find irritating.
