We must leave language of ‘betrayal’ and terrorism to scorched-earth nationalists on Tory side - people like, say, Boris Johnson, who accused Theresa May of ‘wrapping a suicide vest’ around our constitution. Eventually we must try to heal our divisions, not entrench them for life

The current willingness of politicians who need to be working together to have a pop at each other in public is so dispiriting. This goes for Lib Dems as much as Labour. Do they realise the gravity of what we might be facing if Johnson wins an election?

The difficulty is that the LDs can only principally prosper by taking votes from Labour and the Greens. If Thornberry wants to safeguard Labour from this it should propose limited pacts with the LDs. This it is not prepared to do.

That's not actually true. There's a fair number of moderate pro Remain Tories who are moving towards the Lib Dems. A poll came out the other day suggesting the Lib Dems could take as many as 5 seats in Surrey off the Tories, incl those of Raab and Hunt.
