I think economics offers a better way to think about whiteness & white privilege than the discourse paradigm of critical race theory. Here's my case. Also, many thanks to &

Note the estimate of 14,000 - 18,000 ISIS terrorists in Iraq and Syria. It's almost certainly the case that the U.S. and its allies don't know the real number -- as estimates have varied for years. And the U.S. hasn't been able to produce reliable estimates for al Qaeda either.

There are several other known al Qaeda veterans in AQAP’s leadership hierarchy who could take over for Qassim al-Rimi, assuming he is dead. One prospective #1 for AQAP is Khalid Batarfi, an ideologue who in some ways has a higher profile than Rimi across AQ’s global network.

Qassim al-Rimi was/is an interesting figure for a number of reasons. He was both a pre-9/11 veteran of al-Qaeda and relatively young. According to some reporting, he was selected to serve as a trainer at AQ's Al-Farouq camp before 9/11, when he was still in his early 20s.

Reviewing class notes from Penn undergrad course I took on continental philosophy in 1999. I quote: "this notion of alienation is basic motivation of Marxism" & "is what is behind much of Continental philosophy over the last 200 years." Jordan Peterson is not wrong.

I've been following the work of Sean Wilentz for years. On the facts of history, he is world-class.

An analogy to help you understand how contemporary Social Justice Theory's critical methods work. If you've ever made a mistake like this: 2+3=6, where you accidentally multiplied instead of adding, or could imagine doing so, you'll understand this one.

Great piece. In defense of the "fragile" airline attendant, I'd also posit that shifting the ballast of three human bodies most likely produces a different result than moving just two of them. Not that expressing such a white opinion would carry any, er, weight.

I have a short reply to up on my occasional engagement with Marxism and why I reject Marxism in favor of modern economics.

Marx is to the Left what Rand is to the Right: exhilarating in HS & college, & then you realize life is more complex (but Rand's novels are still very good. Howard Roark 👍 Ellsworth Toohey 👎).

At a low enough rate, a wealth tax can raise money without the degree of tax drag that would be observed on investment returns. It thus lands squarely on the uber-rich, without the tax drag on people who are not yet rich but trying to be.

It amazes me that so much time is spent on Marx. I had a Marx phase in which I was totally immersed in his work. Now every time I pick up one of his books & start to read, I get bored and want to give up. Just grew out of him I guess. There's better stuff to do.

I happen to have a lot of positive things to say about Marx, but always enjoy Jonathan's rebuttals.
