I'd always argue my generation don't use the word sleaze and if we did, would reserve it for the use of a love rat not mass scale government corruption. Its certainly very dated.

yeah was having this chat with some friends the other day too, out of the context of political history ‘sleaze’ (more often adj 'sleazy') refers to a guy in a bar

The attraction is definitely that sleaze is synonymous with Major, and losing. The problem, which is sort of blotted out, is that it was also synonymous with Blair and Cameron.

Also hides real reasons people turned away from Major and the Tories: Black Wednesday trashing reputation for economic competence. And was a govt that had run out of ideas.
