Even though it would be even better if a red or even purple state passed a law like this — instead of a blue state like California — this is still very significant. It will prove devastating to Republican down-ballot candidates running for elected office in the state.

God bless democratic states!!!!

How ironic, since the only thing this bill is trying to do is reduce democratic choice. If you think tax returns are a big deal, convince others and make it politically taboo not to release them, but don't rob people of their vote if they don't consider it an issue.

Can Trump challenge this in the court?

In California state court. It's not a federal issue

I find it negligent that we don't make presidential candidates get a security clearance that includes financials. Was Trump getting secret briefs before he was even president? If so how is this possible? The president needs to pass a clearance like everyone else in government.
-
yes, the top candidates began receiving classified briefings even BEFORE to the Nov 2016 general election they shouldn't, but it would a constitutional amendment to change who actually qualifies to be on the ballot nation-wide https://www.cnn.com/2016/08/16/politics/donald-trump-intelligence-briefing/index.html …
