In his Mastery Learning series, makes a distinction between self-paced learning, driven by the students, and differentiation, driven by the teacher and their intimate knowledge of the students. Both are important in guiding kids to mastery.

For years, educators have considered the best use of teacher resources in the classroom. 's Flipped Mastery Classroom defines the teacher's role as meeting the needs of individual students. It makes perfect sense.

A2b I have also incorporated non-traditional assessments - projects (which I call missions), and hands on activities that demonstrate mastery.

A2 I’m very proud of my Ss. All but 1 mastered all summative last quarter. And the one will get there. Ss must score >80% to demonstrate mastery on a summative exam. They must take them until they achieve that level of mastery

A1b I have also shortened my summative assessments so that there is more class time for deep learning. I have found a good summative can be done in 25 min by students.

Not sure I would say I flip assessments. But mastery assessments must be done until they are mastered. I don’t care when you learn, but that you learn.
