    (((JonathanWeisman))) Retweeted Bruce Bartlett

People said the exact same thing after Bush passed $1.7 t in tax cuts in 01 & 03. Virtually all of them are still in place, as is virtually all of Obamacare. And he passed a huge stimulus law. Why is this so different?https://twitter.com/brucebartlett/status/936946956898795521 …

The entire progressive agenda will be off the table for a generation insofar as it involves spending a dime for anything. The money won't be there. Democrats will have to do all they can just to keep Social Security from being privatized and Medicare turned into a block grant.

This is not the same as previous tax cuts and people at the time did not object in the way they are objecting now. Your tweet is gaslighting.

Because the economy needed stimulus after going to war. Obama helped usher us back from the worst recession, remember that(?!!) & we are in a good place, so why add $1.5 to the deficit to give more to the rich? They are the ones doing good already!!

We are in a different fiscal environment than ‘01. In ‘01, the there was a budget surplus so there was more room to borrow. Even in ‘03, our debt to GDP ratio was less than it is now. With our debt to GDP ratio now meeting or exceeding 100%, we have less borrowing we can absorb

The stimulus was required to save us from financial collapse , and Obamacare was revenue neutral, funded by other taxes. Totally wrong analogy.
