Before you get too huffy over the reinstatement of trophy hunting transport, read this. Issues are complicated. Most wildlife experts in Africa support trophy hunting as an antedote to poaching.https://nyti.ms/1Nmu93N

Trophy hunts are popular enough to push down some populations already. If goal is max conservation, why incentivize more slaughter by letting the idle rich bring in their trophies?

Why is it fun to kill an animal “just because”? If it’s a cat or dog, eg, we prosecute. But if it’s an elephant or a lion, it’s fine? 🤔😡

Someone who kills an elephant is literally the next thing to a human-murderer. It’s so profoundly wrong to kill an endangered and deeply sentient/social creature for fun. I don’t want our society to normalize it, ever.

Ok.....But how about we leave the elephants out of it and find a better way to protect them from poaching?

Oy! As much as I hate the idea of trophy hunting, this is backed by science so I must reconsider. Our outcries are driven by the glorification of, neigh, *thirst* for violence under Trump. If we could guarantee strict limits on butchering & plan on ways to wipe out poaching. 😢😡

Except poaching still happens. And trophy hunting lines up the pockets of certain people. Neither helps the animals that are being killed.

Cecil the lion was unique. The hunter was an American dentist. The ppl who were tracking the lion and blew the whistle were British. That's the usual outcome under these parameters.

It had nothing to do with conservation. If the dentist was British, it would have been a non-story.

In theory it should work (re: http://S.Africa  and Namibia), but both countries were banned for failing to show reliable numbers in increasing their elephant populations and have been known to be “one of the most corrupt countries on Earth” (Zimbabwe)

        a) That doesn't make them right nor the act moral. b) That's the exact same lame argument the small males intent on killing these animals make.
