This is a liberal embarrassment. You don't even have to read @BretStephensNYT column but you can't stand thought of a conservative presence. https://twitter.com/seankent/status/858117328143212544 …

It was an invitation to dismiss established science not to search for possible solutions to catastrophe-it's disingenuous to claim otherwise
-
It would have been more legitimate to print "I don't think we should act on climate change because I'll be dead before it hits the fan"
-
It would have been more legitimate to print "the fossil fuel industries provide too many jobs so we just have to trash planet"
-
It even would have been more legitimate to print "it's too late to do anything about climate change so let's ignore it"
-
None of the above is true but can be argued with unlike this wishy-washy mamby-pamby "we don't really know anything about anything" bullshit
-
This is straight out of the Exxon paid PR book to blur the settled science so much folks don't know up from down-it's not honest argument.
-
Or maybe "my right to drive a 5lt SUV trumps the rights of future generations"https://ejwwest.wordpress.com/climate-change-and-the-media/ …
-
At least that's an honest argument that I truly wish was happening.

Furthermore, Jonathon- If you desire real discussion you might want to avoid the condescending assumptions/responses
-
Right. The "discussion" he seeks has been fully "sparked" - it's sparking people to vote with their wallets and cancel long-time NYT subs

Here's the basic problem: he's not qualified to be having the discussion. Stop pretending the debate is btw scientists and talking heads.
-
If he wants to create a forum for scientific discussion then great. But quoting other reporters? No thanks. "Scientism"? Get real.
-
You know what history is "littered with"? Industrialists, journalists, and politicians ignoring the environment. We're paying for that now.
-
I'm not for criticizing the media needlessly. The Fourth Estate is invaluable. But pretending there is a debate to be had here is not.
-
With all that being said, don't cancel your subscription. Continue to show the Times how one-sided this conversation deservedly is.

I'm available to write a column on how the sun revolves around the earth to "start a discussion." Let me know when you need it.
-
Some say the Earth is round, some say it's flat. Both sides!
-
Oh please. The tortoise on the back of elephants thing is totally settle science.
