@jonathanweisman Tom Daschle had to withdraw as nominee for HHS. Wouldn't that count?
Once nomination formally made, when was last time a cabinet secty failed to win confirmation? Tower? (And I'm not counting UN ambassador)

@carenbohan Suppose so but was he formally introduced as HHS secretary nominee? And was Tower the last one to get as far as conf hearings? -
@jonathanweisman It would have been hard for the admin to contend with 2 nominees with tax problems so Daschle withdrew -
.
@carenbohan I still think if Daschle's tax probs emerged 1st, he would've gotten thru, Geithner wouldve withdrawn. Geithner's much worse. -
@jonathanweisman@carenbohan History on Hagel's side for confirmation but Tower nominated quarter century ago. More political bloodlust now.

@jonathanweisman Tower was the last nominee to be voted down by Senate. Before him, Lewis Strauss, Eisenhower's nominee for Commerce Secy. -
@wexler Nu comes through -- with the answer I was looking for.
