I'm sorry but Al Franken wasn't done in by one woman's claims on a USO tour. It was a daily drumbeat of accusations from multiple women of groping. Yes, they weren't awful accusations, but Senate Democratic women had enough. The initial accusation was not the coup de grace.
This, by the way, is no criticism of @JaneMayerNYer's epic piece on 'Affaire Franken. But the Twitteratti's notion that Leeann Tweeden or Kirsten Gillibrand single-handedly brought a senator down is not grasping the events of those 3 weeks.
“Those 3 weeks” is all we need to know about the value of these ex post apologia.
Mayer's piece deals with those allegations, too. A stack of nothingburgers still adds up to ... what?
*clearly we agree but I see my tweet is ambiguous so tbc: It’s Weisman I’m accusing here. And even if the allegations had panned out, Franken was ousted long before they had a chance to. There’s no justifying a lack of process even if it happens to get the right result.

Y’know otoh his point about arbitration was that it deprived people of the fair, open process that they’d hopefully get with a court trial. So, still ironic but not in a hypocritical way.
