Growing your own food is very satisfying.
We like to pop outside, pluck some greens, &throw them on the pan after a rinse.
It’s WAY better for the environment, too. Gardens can sequester more carbon than lawns. Plus: no mowing (&no gasoline)!

I may be dumb to try to grow broccoli in the DC summer, but I am not joking about gardening. We live off our kale and arugula all summer, though our strawberries were disappointing. I'll keep you posted on our tomatoes. And you should get a gander of our compost pit!

Plant Spring broccoli from starts in April. Heads should mature before heat. You can harvest side shoots for a month after. Plant Fall broccoli starts in mid June for fall harvest. Heads should mature after heat. Willamette Valley Oregon.
