The NYT does extremely important work...but that's why it's also important for people to hold it to account, and for reporters there to be open to criticism.
-
This seems especially the case since the times has gotten rid of its public editor at basically the worst possible time in history to do that.

You created a monster and you’re profiting off him while he’s https://www.forbes.com/sites/paulfletcher/2018/02/11/new-york-times-subscription-revenue-tops-1-billion-in-2017/ … destroying our democracy

This is insane

Is it? How?

Bear in mind that all of the most irresponsible political journalists (including Thrush, a workplace sexual harasser) came to the Times from Politico. So there’s some sensitivity at both publications over the short pipeline between themselves.

Any response, Marc?

One of the people who liked his tweet is
@NYTeileen who is the paper’s head of communications. We used to have a public editor. Now we have Times employees sneering at readers and protecting each other online from even mild criticism. It’s systemic rot, and why I unsubscribed. -

He also said the Barr summary was an exonoration of Trump and that it lifted the cloud.

He may be a good journalist, but he's a poor analyst and shouldn't try to be.

This is happening too often.

It is important that Americans know this, so it's great that your colleagues broke the story. But the framing of the story is an important choice here, & worthy of serious critique. Perhaps consider that criticism rather than deflecting by playing the martyr.

They're also deprecating their own prior journalism on how Trump last year pressured Ukraine using military aid needed to fight Russia as leverage to convince them to rig an investigation to affect an election. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/02/world/europe/ukraine-mueller-manafort-missiles.html …

My God, the ability of
@nytimes to accept criticism or admit mistakes is nonexistent. This is exactly why we canceled our subscription. -
It’s epidemic over there. They have so many excellent reporters who do stellar work, but the complete inability to accept even mild criticism goes across the board and it’s obviously a top-down pathology.

This is broadcasting Trump propaganda from a mainstream news outlet. It’s unacceptable. New York Times must stop repeating the mistakes made during election 2016.pic.twitter.com/WrWic4r7e5

Peter Baker has also been writing softball stories about Trump for over 3 years. Still can’t use the word lies. No pass from me.
