He's really boxed himself in. He can (and may!) do that, but we all know it'll be painted as him caving on a deal he said he'd veto. Then he can give his SOTU, but I don't see any new line of argument that'll change the state of things. Then we're back to him shutting it down.

It was inevitable that Chuck Schumer, the human megaphone, would crack first just to grab some headlines.

I've been tough on him, but he didn't crack, on this one. McConnell finally agreed to letting the House bill get a vote (probably knowing that he now has the votes to kill it, which he might not have had before).

As you may gather, I am not a Schumer fan. I hope your assessment is correct.

Everything I've read points to that being the case. Nothing about Schumer giving up anything to get a vote. I think it's just that McConnell got his votes in line to kill it, so now he'll call a vote.
