Didn't the Republicans win the House in 2012 while the Democrats had won the popular vote by over a million votes?

I was right, Republicans had won 234 - 201 while Democrats had 59.6M to 58.2M.

Did I miss some sort of national election last night? Unless you’re calling state lines gerrymandering then the National margin is a ridiculous concept to apply to state elections.
-
Right. This happens by design, having 2 Senators per State, independently of the relative population of the States. Regardless, just with like the Electoral College concept, the unavoidable conclusion is that not all votes count the same *by design*. It sounds more like a flaw...
-
To be exact, it was a solution built for a very different problem from the founding of the country. Giving small states an extra element of representation had a different meaning in the context of incorporating these states in the first place than it does in a modern democracy.
-
Indeed and with less movement in those days, people truly were Pennsylvanians, Virginians, etc. Now? There could be as many (if not more) North Dakotans living in California, Texas, New York, etc
-
And there are plenty of people who literally live in one state and work in another, even. There are places where you can literally cross a state line going through suburbs, even.
-
My poor understanding (I went to a French school...) is that they needed to persuade states to join the federation by promising them equal representation regardless of population or size. No longer true... but I don't see Wyoming relinquishing its outsize influence.
-
Yep. A Wyoming resident has 68 times the power of a California resident when voting for Senate.

Y'all being too nice. You know they are lying on purpose with bad faith arguments to deflect and obfuscate.

A wave requires a change in power relations. 2010 was a wave. 2018 was not. It’s not a numerical readout. ffs

I will keep repeating this point: capping the House at 435 seats (as was done in the Apportionment Act of 1911 when the U.S. population was less than 1/3 of what it is now) is simply unconstitutional. We need a new act that creates equally sized districts, aka the Wyoming Rule.

High turnout too. That's important context as just look at 10. R's up 7.2 but lost 12 handily. But... if turnout was even close to what yesterday was? Wouldn't have been 7.2.

The Senate was "gerrymandered" by design by founding fathers, making weaker, smaller populated states equal to big states. Electoral College is hybrid, makes a "minority" party victory (Republican) possible

But with
#gerrymamndering the Dems only have a 10-15 seat lead in the House. This is a bigger problem than we admit. Only Schwarzenegger seems to care.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
